Caribou fur is used in traditional Métis tufting. It highlights our resourcefulness and use of every part of the animal. It's another way to honour the animal.
Each piece is from either the neck or the rump where the fur is thick and mostly white on the caribou. With each piece you'll find variation in: thickness of fur, dye uptake, and fur length.
Tufting fur has the hide still attached and should shed minimally as I've taken great pains to make sure it's not too messy (extra bits of fur are left out for our neighbourhood birds!).
Each piece is approximately 1" by 2" but there is also some variation here. I'll do my best to make sure you have a beautiful piece for your tufting art.
